April 19: Space and Earth

Saturday was Stitch’s first day trip, starting with a short visit to the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex, followed by a stop at Dezerland Park (formerly the Festival Bay shopping mall) on the way home.

Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex

For once there was no pending launch involved; just me and my iPhone to take pictures and tour the grounds and exhibits with no time pressure.

Enchanted Forest County Park

This is a little off the beaten path, a right-turn off of Columbia Parkway just before the junction with SR-407 heading back to Orlando. Didn’t venture very far into the place because I wasn’t equipped with a proper water bottle and shoes for hiking. I’ll have to come back better prepared on my next visit.

I’m not sure what to make of this place. At one time it was the Festival Bay Mall—the Bass Pro Shop/Outdoor World and Cinemark theater are both still there and operating—before the mall went under and was taken over by Artegon Place, then went under again and was acquired by Dezer Development and turned into an indoor theme park.

It doesn’t look like Dezer’s concept is doing very well, neither. What wasn’t closed was empty or had no customers except for the few in the arcade area and some cart racers. There’s an automotive museum adjacent to the theme park occupying the east half of the former mall. Just looks like one of those places that needs to be put out of its misery.
